The Team
Explore the evolving Willmore lab team.

Dr. William Willmore, PhD
Founder & Lead Supervisor
Postdoctoral Researcher
Department of Medicine
Division of Hematology
Harvard Medical School, 1997-2001

Ph.D. Biochemistry, Carleton University, 1997

B.Sc. (Honours With Distinction) Marine Biology
University of Guelph, 1992

Nadia Abzan
PhD Student in Biomedical Engineering, Carleton University
With a multidisciplinary background in Engineering, Biomaterials, and Cell Culture, Nadia joined our group to explore how oxygen influences ECM remodeling, by developing 3D lung models of asthma. Co-supervised by Dr. Leila Mostaço-Guidolin, PhD, PEng and Dr. Willmore, PhD.

Alexandra Star
PhD in Biology, Specialization in Biochemistry, Carleton University
Alex works at the National Research Council and is pursuing doctoral studies at Carleton University where she applies her mass spectrometry expertise to study the proteins in extracellular vesicles to find disease biomarkers and examines proteins at the cell surface to identify potential therapeutics.

Myra Thapar
PhD, Carleton University
Myra is a PhD student co-supervised by Drs. William Willmore and Steven Cooke. She studies both the physiological (transcriptomics and proteomics) and behavioural response to cold shock in freshwater fish."

Bahareh
Hosseinpour
PhD in Chemistry, Carleton University
Bahareh is co-supervised by Dr. Maria DeRosa, PhD (Dean of Science, Carleton University) and Dr. Willmore. She studies the biochemical characterization of a DNA aptamer targeting acute myeloid leukemia cells.

Kinsley Boers
MSc. in Biology with Collaborative Specialization in Biochemistry.
Kinsley did her BIOL 4908 (Honours Research Thesis) with Dr. Willmore. She now studies the effects of different stressors on ECM re-modelling and fibroblast activity. This research aims to build the foundation necessary to develop advanced 3D tissue models that more accurately replicate the hypoxic environments found in human tissues.

Dupe Adesoji
BSc. Honours Biology with a Concentration in Health Sciences, Carleton University
Dupe was a summer 2025 NSERC USRA recipient and is performing her BIOL 4908 (Honours Research Thesis) studying the gene expression in the transition from fibroblast to myofibroblast .

Keoni Haynes
MSc. in Biology with a Specialization in Biochemistry, Carleton University
Keoni did his BIOL 4908 (Honours Research Thesis) with Dr. Willmore. He now studies the effects of different stressors on ECM re-modelling and fibroblast activity. This research aims to build the foundation necessary to develop advanced 3D tissue models that more accurately replicate the hypoxic environments found in human tissues.

Ayaa Al-Hamadi
B.Sc. Honours Student in Biology with a concentration in Health Science and a
minor in Statistics, Carleton University
Ayaa volunteered in the Willmore Lab for Summer 2025 and is currently performing her BIOL 4908 (Honours Research Thesis) studying the gene expression in the transition from fibroblast to myofibroblast.

Anh Cao
BSc. Biology & Biotechnology, Carleton University
Anh recently joined the Willmore Lab for her BIOL 4908 (Honours Research Thesis) to study the gene expression in the transition from fibroblast to myofibroblast.
